study
In Guatemala
When are the classes?
Morning or afternoon classes. Some students choose 2, 4, or 6 hours of classes per day, and you can experiment with what works for you. Since your class is just you and your teacher, you can adjust.
Can I Study With a Friend?
Yes, you can. Some people find that studying together in a 2-on-1 class works better for them. Others try it, and then decide to study separately. It's up to you.
What about afternoons?
We have many field trips, educational excursions, cooking experiences, and volunteer opportunities available every week.
Is it always the teacher talking?
Your teacher wants you to talk, talk, and talk more Spanish. We use discussions, jokes, conversations, and verbal exercises to get you talking and learning. Some classes might be a Spanish-conversation trip to the market or coffee shop, pushing you to use your new skills in action.
When is the school open?
8 am to 6 pm, Monday to Friday, Saturday from 8-12 and Sunday depends on reservations.
Is there wifi?
We have always had the best internet in the entire town of Panajachel, and currently have a fibre-optic connection, with wifi coverage throughout our school and grounds. You are welcome to use it to keep up with work as well.
What books will I use?
We have a library of over 500 Spanish grammar and exercise books, and we choose different exercises, as your needs change. We have customized workbooks for each level, and our own materials and curriculum that we are constantly developing and improving.
Do the teachers speak English?
Your teachers can speak English, to help you along, but since you're here to learn Spanish, they will minimize their English-speaking.
Where can I live?
Many students love the homestay option, where they live with a Guatemalan family nearby. We also have a beautiful rental apartment, a rental house, and many recommendations on other apartments and hotels within a few minutes' walk. Since Panajachel is a tourist destination, there are many options in all price ranges.
